Essential Things

Blogs I Follow

Why did I call this blog “Essential Things”?  Upon taking one of my master’s courses this spring one of my professors challenged us to create a blog or do something proactive to help generate awareness of issues within our Christian circles about topics that are not addressed well by the church or in some cases not at all.  This blog is to be a place for discussion of ideas about theology, eschatology, the world in general as it is impacted by these areas and what the church can do about it.

In the book “Orthodoxy” by G.K. Chesterton, he says;

This is the first principle of democracy: that the essential things in men are the things they hold in common, not the things they hold separately. And the second principle is merely this: that the political instinct or desire is one of these things which they hold in common.[1]

Building off of this definition we will journey through different topics to see what men actually hold in common regarding their beliefs about the Bible and how it relates to the reality around us.  I will be building this site over time to include content from other sources and sites.

If the Bible is true, then regardless of what secularists believe the things that are discussed here will be what men have in common since some of those actions are still in the future they will happen whether people believe in them or not.  This is a variation on the original definition, but as I said earlier all men will have these things in common if the Bible is true.

I welcome feedback and commentary as long as it is cordial, thoughtful, academic, and helpful. I look forward to discussing many things that have crossed my mind over the last fifty years.

The Lord Jesus be with all of you
